The reviews are in - DUNKIRK is a masterpiece that must be experienced in IMAX:
"The Oscar race for Best Picture is officially on... Dunkirk is a monumental achievement, a World War II epic of staggering visual spectacle (see it in IMAX if you can) that hits you like a shot in the heart." - Peter Travers, Rolling Stone
"This is big-time, old-school filmmaking. Dunkirk isn't overdone. It's simply done epically." - Stephen Whitty, New York Daily News
"Dunkirk is a stone cold masterpiece. It's a stunningly immersive survival film told in 106 thrillingly realized minutes." - Lindsay Bahr, Associated Press
In May 1940, Germany advanced into France, trapping Allied troops on the beaches of Dunkirk. With their backs to the sea they face an impossible situation as the enemy closes in. Under air and ground cover from British and French forces, troops were slowly and methodically evacuated from the beach using every serviceable naval and civilian vessel that could be found. At the end of this heroic mission, 330,000 French, British, Belgian and Dutch soldiers were safely evacuated.
*It is no surprise that Director Chris Nolan will be shooting key sequences of DUNKIRK with IMAX 1570 Film Cameras. As per THE DARK KNIGHT, THE DARK KNIGHT RISES and INTERSTELLAR, these sequences will expand vertically to fill our massive (23m in height) IMAX screen sheet, meaning audiences will be fully immersed in the movie, as only IMAX can do. Nolan is a huge advocate for using film (instead of digital) cameras to shoot his movies and therefore he is promoting that best way to experience DUNKIRK will be in those theatres projecting film, with the ultimate of those being the traditional giant screen IMAX theatres using the large format 15perf 70mm IMAX Film projectors.
In response to and out of respect for (Sir) Nolan's passionate advocacy for all things film (and in particular large format 15perf 70mm IMAX film), IMAX Melbourne in conjunction with IMAX Corporation will be reinstalling our original IMAX 1570 Film Projector (alongside the new IMAX Dual 4K Laser system) for the release of DUNKIRK in order to provide viewers with the cinema experience Nolan wishes you to have. You're welcome.
