IMAX Melbourne Temporary Closure Announcement:
From Monday 22nd August through to Wednesday 7th September 2016, IMAX Melbourne will be closed to facilitate the installation and painting of a new IMAX screen sheet in the theatre.
During the two week closure period the current screen will be removed and the theatre entrance will be partly dismantled to uncover the hidden access doors that allow the new screen, paint rig and silver paint to be craned directly into the screen pit at the bottom of the theatre. Once these materials are safely in the theatre, a team of riggers will hoist the new screen into place and secure it to the top, each side and bottom of the screen frame. The screen is then correctly tensioned to ensure there are no creases or wrinkles. The paint rig is then erected, with scaffolding allowing the paint head to transverse the full width (32m) and height (23m) of the massive screen. Once set up the painting process can begin. Painting will take close to one full week, and during this time Screen Paint professionals (specialists flown in from overseas) oversee the equipment and ensure the theatre environment is strictly maintained to provide an optimum curing process.
The new screen will provide a more enhanced viewing experience and furthers our commitment to providing Melbourne with what is simply an unrivalled premium cinema experience.
IMAX Melbourne will reopen on Thursday 8th September 2016 with the release of three new titles:
We look forward to welcoming you back when we re-open.
Best Regards, The IMAX Team.
