What time does the car park close? Can I get out after midnight?
Opening hours to enter the car park are 5:30am to midnight daily. Customers can exit the car park at any time.
How do I validate my carpark ticket?
Bring your parking ticket to the Candy Bar where staff will validate it for you.
Should I prebook my parking?
During peak periods, we recommend prebooking your parking online to avoid disappointment. Please head to the Melbourne Museum Parking website to book.

Should I book online?
You can book both online and in person at our Candy Bar. We recommend booking online to secure your ticket and to avoid disappointment.
Why do I have to pay a booking fee?
Our booking fee covers the cost associated with administration and the upkeep of our ticketing and payment software. Booking online means you can skip the queue in person and secure your tickets and preferred seats as soon as tickets go on sale. There’s no booking fee when you buy your tickets in person at the Candy Bar.
I’ve lost my ticket, can you send me a new copy?
Unfortunately we are not able to resend tickets. Our candy bar staff will be able to print a new copy for you when you come in on the day using the phone number you booked with.
What ages can access a child ticket?
Child tickets are for ages 3-15 years old. Children under 3 can share a seat with an adult.
When will you release more sessions?
Our session times are published on a weekly basis.

How do I redeem my voucher?
Depending on the type of voucher, you can redeem vouchers both online and at our Candy Bar. To redeem your voucher online, choose your film and session time then enter the voucher code in the voucher/promo tab.
How do I redeem my IMAX gift card?
You can redeem your gift card both online and at our Candy Bar. To redeem your gift online, choose your film and seat then enter the gift card number at the payment screen.
How do I make a group booking or arrange a private session?
To enquire about a group booking or a private session, please fill out our booking form.
Do you have accessible parking spaces?
Accessible parking spaces are available on Level P2 of the Melbourne Museum carpark. Please be aware that our car park has a height restriction of 2.15m. Parking for vehicles over this limit is available on Rathdowne Street.
Is there lift access to the theatre?
We don’t have lift access to the theatre, but we offer alternate access at the back of the theatre. Please notify a member of staff on your arrival who will guide you to your seat. Learn more about accessible seating.
How can I book a companion card ticket?
You can book companion tickets by selecting the Wheelchair and Companion ticket online or by purchasing at the Candy Bar. For peak periods, we recommend booking online. You do not have to book wheelchair spaces if using this ticket.
Do you offer Closed Captioning or Audio Description?
We offer both Closed Captioning and Audio Description at IMAX. Please check the specific film information page for the CC and AD symbol.
The devices are available from the IMAX Candy Bar. It is recommended that users allow an extra 5 minutes prior to the session time for collection. Instructions on how to use the system will be provided with the device. Some form of identification may be required and held until the device is returned at the end of the film.
Can I bring my guide dog or assistance animal to a session?
Guide dogs and assistance animals are welcome at IMAX Melbourne. Please inform an IMAX staff member when you arrive to assist with your seating.
How do I access the cinema if I can’t take stairs?
If you’re unable to take the stairs down to the cinema, we offer alternate access via the back of the theatre. Please notify a member of staff on your arrival who will guide you to your seat.
Is the popcorn vegan or gluten free?
Our popcorn is vegan, gluten free and delicious!
Can I drink alcohol in the theatre?
We are a fully licensed theatre, and you can purchase alcohol from the Candy Bar. You cannot bring your own alcohol into the theatre or foyer.
Can I bring my own snacks?
You can bring your own snacks but cannot bring hot food into the theatre.
When is your candy bar open?
The candy bar is open from the first session until 15 minutes after the last session of the day has commenced.
Do you have hot food?
We have hot, fresh popcorn available! We don’t offer any other hot food at our Candy Bar.
Can I buy candy bar snacks online?
Candy Bar snacks are available for purchase after selecting your tickets online. On arrival to your session, head to the candy bar to pick up your treats.
Where is the cinema entrance?
Our entrance is located on the Rathdowne Street side of the Melbourne Museum. You can enter via our dedicated entry or through the Melbourne Museum during business hours.
How many screens do you have?
IMAX Melbourne has one giant theatre screen. It’s the best biggest cinema screen in the world.
What is Premium seating?
Premium seats are the most luxurious seats in the house. With reclining backs and footrests, Premium Seating is perfectly positioned in the back row of the theatre. You can choose Premium Seating at an extra charge when purchasing your tickets for a feature length film. Please note the seating is not suitable for children under the age of 15 years old.
Are all your movies in 3D?
We play both 2D and IMAX 3D. All 3D sessions will have ‘3D’ in the title.
Do you have allocated seating?
We have allocated seating for our feature films and you can choose your seat before completing your transaction online. For documentaries, seating is unallocated.
I’m bringing luggage, can I store it during the show?
We have limited storage available but may be able to assist you, please see staff at the Candy Bar on your arrival. We do not take any responsibility for items left at IMAX.
Do I need to pay for 3D glasses?
3D glasses hire is included in your ticket price. 3D glasses must be returned at the end of the movie to be cleaned and sanitised for re-use.
Can I take my pram into the theatre?
Prams are considered a hazard in the rare case of an evacuation. We offer pram parking in our Prequel Bar.
Why should I watch a film at IMAX?
Movies are made to be watched in IMAX. From our crisp IMAX 4K Laser format to the towering seven-storey screen and hair-raising surround sound, there’s no other cinematic experience like it. Read more about the IMAX difference.
Can I pay with cash?
IMAX Melbourne has implemented cashless payment only. For visitors unable to access a cashless payment method, a cash payment option is available. We prefer correct change. Please speak to an IMAX Duty Manager for assistance.
How long are the trailers?
Our pre-show trailers are shorter than most cinemas so it’s best to be seated at your session time to avoid missing any of the film
How old do I have to be to watch a film alone?
To watch a film alone, you must be over the age of 12 years old and see a film with a legally suitable classification. Anyone under the age of 12 needs to have a supervisor over the age of 17 years old accompanying them.
Who can see a MA15+ film?
MA15+ rated content is legally restricted to people over the ages of 15. Children under the age of 15 may not legally watch MA 15+ rated material unless they are in the company of a parent or adult guardian. The parent or adult guardian must also purchase the ticket for the child, must be over the age of 18 and exercise parental control over the child. Who can see a R18+ film?
R 18+ material is restricted to people over the age of 18 only. Children under the age of 18 are not able to view R 18+ content under any circumstances. Read more about more information on film classification guidelines.

What is the Big League?

How do I access my Big League benefits?
You can access your membership benefits both online and at our Candy Bar.
How do I redeem a complimentary ticket?
To redeem your complimentary ticket, login to your membership, choose the session you would like to attend, and then choose the appropriate ticket type.
When will my birthday ticket expire?
Your complimentary birthday ticket must be redeemed within 28 days of your birthday.
How do I access Big League early access ticket sales?
Exclusive Big League member ticket times will be announced via our newsletter, on our website and social media accounts. You must login to your membership prior to purchasing tickets.
Can I share my account with someone?
Memberships are designed for individuals; members can purchase up to 5 discounted tickets per session but only the person named will receive reward tickets and Candy Bar discounts.
